THE January meeting was held in the British Legion Hall and president Neris Lloyd welcomed all members to the New Year meeting.

All the business matters were discussed, including a letter of reply from Ben Lake MP in answer to our letter regarding the problem of plastic waste in the oceans.

All this year’s resolutions were discussed and voting took place to choose the one for our Branch to support.

Unfortunately, the speaker had cancelled due to illness, so they had a quiz on different trees, which was interesting and thought-provoking.

The competition for an animal photograph with caption was won by Jackie Swetman, with Anne Jackson second.

The raffle was won by Mary Jones, and the tea was served by Margaret Morgan and Megan Richards.

The next meeting is on Wednesday, 7 February, Music on the Keyboard with John Bass.

THERE will be a Mass on Sunday, 14 January, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, at 12.30pm.

Bridge Club

ON a low turn-out, winners for the first meeting of 2018 were Ted Morgan and Jenny Harris.

Three pairs shared second place at exactly 50 per cent.

A warm welcome was given to Mike Jones on his return to the baize.

He and Dai Hayes, together with Keith Bellamy and Gill Howells bid the slam on board 3.

Aberaeron Bridge Club meets in the Royal British Legion Hall each Thursday at 6.45pm – newcomers are eagerly welcomed.

Afternoon tuition for beginners and improvers is at 1pm in the Feathers Hotel.

Next week they will be looking at and practicing the different ways of bidding slams.
