GLENYS, the chair, welcomed Delyth Price to our open evening with arrangements portraying ‘Festive highlights’.
The first arrangement was ‘Christmas Parcel’.
Her second design was a ‘Wintery Snowy Scene’.
Her third design was a ‘Church Window’ which began with a traditional arch frame.
Her fourth design was ‘Star of Bethlehem’.
Her final design began with a natural cane sleigh to which she added soft ruscus and Ilex berries that added height and balance to the design. She added Weston Hemlock for a cascading effect and variegated Holly to one side of the design and then added Artificial ferns, Fatsia Japonica and green holly to the back of the design. She stapled gold sprayed leaved and added Leucadendron for height. She added Red Tropical Anthuriums to the centre and the arrangement was completed by adding Naomi, red velvet roses to build through.
She played several Christmas carols during her displays and members were left with a wonderful Christmas scene.
Christine Gilbert thanked Delyth for an amazing evening.
Rotary Club
AT a special general meeting last week, David McParlin was formally appointed president-elect of the Aberystwyth Rotary Club. He will take over as president in July 2019.
Hywel Davies was re-elected as club secretary, and Robin Varley as treasurer for 2019-20.
After the meeting, club members visited the Old College, where they were given a presentation by Jim O’Rourke on the university’s exciting and ambitious plans for the redevelopment of the building.
On 4 December, the club held a successful ‘Nordic Evening’ at the Medrus suite, Penbryn, organised by Rotarian Howard Jones in association with the University’s Nordic Students Club.
Guests were treated to some traditional Scandinavian recipes and a musical interlude by the students.
