THE latest community news from Bala

The venue was barely recognisable having had a thorough makeover and was beautifully painted and decorated throughout.
The meeting opened with the singing of Meirion.
The president, Beryl Roberts, decided to lay all correspondence on the table for inspection and proceeded to outline the important events and information in the current newsletter.
Rachel Davies, the link delegate for the local WI areas, had visited the national AGM in Liverpool.

Next year the AGM will be held in Cardiff in June.
The president thanked all who supported the County Show, especially those who sent exhibits.

The Christmas event will be held on 9 December.
A welcome was extended to Barbara (a new member introduced by Ann Bufton).
The speaker for the evening was Jan Evans representing the RSPB.
Her talk was both interesting and amusing.
She is a field teacher at Lake Vyrnwy and is attached to schools in this area and over the border.
A farmer’s wife and a mother of four she obviously has great rapport with children.
Her topic embraced birds and the outdoors.
Her anecdotes about city children responding to country life were most amusing.
The most useful exhibit was the Buster Squirrel Minc - a bird feeder that the squirrels could not enter.
Thanks go to Olwen and Pat (tea hostesses) and also to Olwen for the raffle.
Jean McNaught gave the vote of thanks and a good night was had by all.
