BALA WI celebrated St David’s Day on the evening of Thursday, 8 March.

Prior to dealing with any business, two members were congratulated on reaching their special birthdays, namely Olwen Jones and Evelyn Howe.

Happy Birthday was sung, followed by Meirion, and a short discussion about organisation business.

Members were reminded of various functions in which to participate (invitation to Llandrillo’s Welsh Night etc.).

Ellie Bedwell from Cynwyd was the entertainer for the evening and as MC it was Millie Rowlands duty to welcome and entertain our guest.

Millie had very little information about this lady except what she had gleaned from “bush telegraph”.

She learned that she was a talented young singer with a strong melodious voice and her repertoire was modern.

All this proved to be true, added to which her stage presence was relaxed, friendly and sincere.

They all enjoyed her singing.

Following this, the members of the committee served a good spread of soup, sandwiches, Bara Brith and cakes.

The tables were enhanced by daffodil arrangements supplied by Cynthia.

President, Beryl Roberts, thanked all and sundry for their efforts.

A big thank you to Ellie for stepping in at short notice to entertain.
