Gallery
The Maenofferen Gallery hosts an exhibition by the local camera club members until 9 June and admission is free during the library’s opening hours.
Singing Festival
Last Sunday evening, the annual Singing Festival was held at Bowydd Chapel conducted by Wendy Jenkins and Ceris Jones with Patrick Young, the organist.
The opening service was taken by members of Carmel Chapel and also taking part were pupils from Ysgol y Moelwyn and the Rhiannedd Ladies Choir conducted by Ceris Jones.
Siop Siarad
The monthly meeting of Siop Siarad, the social group for Welsh learners, will be held at 11am on Saturday, 26 May, at the Bridge Café.
All learners and fluent speakers are invited to attend for an informal chat.
Angling
On Sunday, 15 young anglers took part in the Cambrian Angling Association’s first competition of the season all aiming for the McAlpine Cup. And what a day it was for them as they presented a total of 93 fish at the weigh-in.
The under-10s winner was Wayne Davies with 14 fish at 14lbs 4ozs and he won the McAlpine Cup. In second place was Jane Ellen Williams with wight at 9-12 and Alisa Jones was third with five at 5-15.
The 11-16s ages winner was Meical Thomas with 12 at 13-4 with Enya Hughes second with eight at 9-12 and Carwyn Thomas with seven at 7-6 was third.
Thomas Humphreys landed the heaviest fish at 4lbs and Charlie Williams won the pool for catching blue trout.
This Sunday from 10am Brian Jones, the ex Welsh International Fly Fisherman and qualified coach, will give free fly-fishing tuition for juniors at Ffridd Lake.
Clwb Cerdded

Camera Club
The Camera Club held its AGM recently where the following officials were elected: Dilys Williams, president; Dewi Moelwyn Williams, chairman; Rory Trappe, vice chairman; Helen Kelly, secretary; Stephen Marshall, treasurer; Tom Dodd, programme secretary; Ian O’Neill, competition secretary; Stan Jones, equipment officer.
During the meeting, the chairman presented Rory Trappe with the Photographer of the Year Trophy and Juliet Dover with the Beginners’ Trophy. The club is currently holding an exhibition of its members’ work at the local library until 9 June.
