AT the last talk Jon Knowles talked about archive photographs of J W Greaves.

Jon went through a series of photographs selected from the vast collection, some of which had already featured in various books on the slate industry of the area.

However, the majority of those shown were previously unpublished and varied from some of the very earliest of underground photos where, during their taking, the rockmen and miners saw the extent of their chambers for the first time!

Photos taken above ground were also included, giving a spectacular view of Llechwedd, Maenofferen, Votty and Bowydd, and Diphwys quarries. There were also some taken in the Oakley quarry.

Members agreed it was a very entertaining talk and thanks were given to Jon by CABFfAS chairman Bill Jones and the audience.

The next meeting of the society will be this Thursday at the Ganolfan at 7pm.

Keith O’Brien will give a talk entitled ‘O Fawn i Fango’, covering the industrial archaeology of metal mining in the Trawsfynydd area. The talk will be in Welsh with simultaneous English translation.
