Dysynni Ladies
The chairperson, Gwenfair Pierce, opened the 14 March meeting by extending a warm welcome to the members.
The May outing this year will be to travel on the Talyllyn Railway from Wharf Station to Abergynolwyn and back to partake of a meal at the railway’s Kings Restaurant, the arrangements having been undertaken by assistant secretary Mary Sheffield.
The guest speaker for the evening was Ruth Roberts Owen, originally from Denbigh, but has lived in the area for many years. Ruth is a talented academic who gave a lyrical reading of poems she has written, one of which has received special commendation from the Oriel Davies Gallery in Newtown. Pat Chadwick gave the official vote of thanks to Ruth for sharing her wonderful talents.
The competition for the evening was a limerick and Pat read out all the competition entries but the points went to Gwenfair for first and second place and Doreen Edwards achiveing third.
The tea hostesses for the evening were Joan Burrows and Jane Smith and the raffle was won by Gwenfair.
There followed the Annual General Meeting when the following business took place.
Gwyneth Thomas, the honorary life vice-president, thanked the officers for their hard work during the year and for arranging an interesting and varied programme and she requested that the thoughts and wishes of the members are always with Anna Pateman, the group’s life president who has recently celebrated her 92nd birthday.
Pat Chadwick read the minutes of the last AGM, which were approved as read. The chairperson gave her report on the meetings for the year. The treasurer, Gwenda Roberts, produced a balance sheet for the members and gave her recommendations on the fiscal standing of the group.
The following officers were appointed for the 2018 – 19 season: honorary president – Gwenfair Pierce; chairperson – Anne Rowlands; vice-chairperson – Myra Dods; secretary – Pat Chadwick; assistant secretary – Mary Sheffield; treasurer – Gwenda Roberts; assistant treasurer –Lynda Kelly; committee – Janet Jones, Liz Williams, Jane Smith, Freda Jones, Beryl Goodchild, and Mary I Davies.
Before closing the meeting, Gwenfair thanked Pat and Mary for their efficiency and guidance during the year, to Gwenda and Lynda for recording and taking care of the funds and to the committee members for their contributions, especially their efforts in preparing for the Jubilee celebrations.
Finally she wished Anne and her committee well for the forthcoming year.
The next meeting will be for the committee members only in Y Ganolfan, Bryncrug at 7:30pm on Wednesday, 11 April.
