Women’s Institute

THE president welcomed members and two guests.

Nerys Rowse, a local professional printmaker, was introduced by Christine, and gave a very interesting talk about fabric printing, card printing, etching, and the various methods that can be used to achieve this, lino cutting being the main one.

She gave a demonstration of printing on fabric, such as shopping bags, also greeting cards and answered many questions and members were then able to create their own prints.

Apologies, birthdays and news of members were read out along with the minutes of the last meeting. Raffle tickets for the county show were on sale again and two bilingual ‘Totems’ have been ordered to advertise activities.

County letter was read and items of interest noted. Members were asked to give some thought to what organisation/charities they would like to see receive a donation.

Once again this year, the Llanfair Art Group will have an exhibition in Harlech Memorial Hall from 29 July for two weeks and the institute will have a table of homemade produce, jams, chutneys, cakes etc. The WI book of Harlech will also be on sale.

September meeting sales table will be toys/games/jigsaw puzzles arranged by Annette and Jenny.

As there is no meeting in August, Eileen Greenwood is kindly letting them have an afternoon tea party in her garden during August.

On 28 July in Dyffryn Church Hall there will be a car boot sale with proceeds going to St Tanwg’s Church.

Edwina thanked everyone who supported the Artro Group at the summer fair. Harlech WI donated 30 small prizes for the ‘everyone’s a winner’ stall, with Josie and Jenny being thanked for overseeing the sales.

The next craft group, card making with Gwen Pettifor, will be on 20 July in Llanfair Memorial Hall.

Joyce Wood won the competition, Libby Williamson was second and Stella Calvert third.

The next meeting will be on 13 September, new members welcome.
