The Legend of Rhita Gawr / Snowdon. Rhita Gawr was probably the biggest giant in Wales. He was sponsored by Gillette (the best a giant can get) and roamed Wales warring with as many as he could, then taking men’s beards as trophies. Sounds like a strange dream doesn’t it, but it’s true. Join a walk up the Watkin Path named after a Liberal Democrat who was not sponsored by Gillette.
Sir Edward Watkin MP was to later retire to a chalet at the foot of Snowdon. The walk starts from outside Y Talbot at 7am, and the walk is to last approximately 6-7 hours and is graded a hard walk which covers eight miles with an ascent of 1,000m. Should you wish to become a member of Clwb Cerdded Tregaron Walking Club then please feel free to give Dafydd the secretary a ring on 01974 298 150.
WI
IT seems some while ago that Olive and Yvonne, the founders of Pethau Olyv in Pen y Bont, came to the Memorial Hall to talk to us about setting up their business and showing us examples of their goods.
They were wonderfully entertaining speakers who met over 30 years ago and they brought along examples of the fine and reasonably priced goods that they sell mainly at shows, craft fairs and over the internet. We really enjoyed their visit and hope to meet them again at the Royal Welsh Show. The WI visited the Royal Mint in Llantrisant later in the month which yearly produces over five billion coins, not only for the UK but also for many countries in the world.
The tour was interesting and educational and we would recommend it to others. The nearby Miskin Arms was the venue for lunch where we were welcomed by an old friend, Dudley, who is now the owner of the restaurant.
The food and service were excellent. Later in the month many of us visited the RWS particularly to view the Ceredigion entry in the Co-operative class as Tregaron WI had been chosen to represent the county.
They hope to be joined by members of Swyddffynnon and Bont WIs at the next meeting on Wednesday, 16 September, when Ivor Thomas will be showing some of his vintage films.
The evening will begin at 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall and everyone is welcome. If you would like any further information please do call Monica Rose on 01974 298165.
