The George Borrow Trail – Pumlumon Fawr from Dyffryn Castell: This trail is sponsored by The George Borrow Hotel, Ponterwyd, 01970 890230.

In 1854 the travelogue George Borrow visited Pumlumon Fawr.

Indeed he wrote in his book Wild Wales, “I question … whether there is a higher hill in the world!”

Today, they walk on exactly the same route as George took all those years ago.

The first section of the walk is rather steep then joins the Sir Chris Bonington trail that comes up from Eisteddfa Gurig.

After leaving the forest plantation on your left, you’ll see Pumlumon Fawr waiting for you in the distance. 2468ft is the height.

The walk starts from outside Y Talbot at 9am and returns to George Borrow Hotel afterwards for drinks and free cawl.

The walk is to last approximately five hours and is graded a Moderate walk which covers seven miles with an ascent of 1741ft/530m.

WI

THE January meeting of Tregaron WI was well attended, despite the weather.

The NFWI Resolutions were discussed and a majority of members voted in favour of the resolution ‘Mental Health Matters’ which calls upon the government to give better support for mental illness.

The resolution recognises the importance of parity between mental and physical health and the need to make it as acceptable to talk about mental health issues as physical health issues.

The main part of the meeting was devoted to Meditation.

One member, Janey Stevens, talked about the benefits to be gained from meditation and then helped us to achieve a meditative state.

They all felt very relaxed at the end of the evening and realised how much they had enjoyed the experience and vowed to practice it in the future.

The next meeting, starting at 7.30pm, will be in the Memorial Hall on Wednesday, 14 February.

Heather Summers will be holding a ‘Drumming Workshop’.

Oedfa Deuluol

PRYNHAWN Sul, 21 Ionawr cynhaliwyd Oedfa Deuluol gyntaf y flwyddyn dan ofal y Parch Carwyn Arthur.

Rhoddwyd yr emynau allan gan Lois Davies, Mabli Dark, Anni Grug Lewis Hughes a Dafydd Bennett. Darllenwyd gan Megan Dark a Gethin Bennett.

Cafwyd eitem gan y plant yn canu emyn o’r Detholiad i gyfeiliant Catherine Hughes.

Casglwyd gan Gwilym ac Owen Jones a chyfeiliwyd gan Gwyneth Davies.

Diolchwyd i bawb a gymerodd ran gan Gareth Jones.

Roedd y plant yn lygaid i gyd yn gwylio’r Bugail yn gwneud un o’i driciau gyda’r macyn poced a’r smotiau yn diflannu!

Soniodd am y pwysigrwydd i fod yn ufudd bob amser a sut y dylem fyw o ddydd i ddydd.

Ar hyn o bryd mae gan Tearfund brosiect a elwir yn ‘Toilet Twinning’.

Gwelwyd lluniau truenus o blant bach yn gorfod cario dwr glân am filltiroedd a hynny mewn amgylchiadau anodd yn Uganda.

Cawsom ein synnu wrth weld y diffyg cyfleusterau sydd ganddynt yn y wlad, rhywbeth yr ydym ni yn ei gymryd mor ganiataol bob dydd.

Gwnaeth y Bugail ddosbarthu blychau i bob teulu, ac os cesglir £60 bydd hyn yn ein galluogi i efeillio ag un toiled.

Bydd pawb yn cael cyfle i gasglu arian mân a llenwi’r blychau erbyn diwrnod y barbeciw ym mis Gorffennaf.

Diolchir i bawb am eu cefnogaeth, a gobeithio’n fawr y byddwn yn gallu gefeillio mwy nag un toiled!
