Clwb Cerdded/Walking Club

THE next walk is scheduled for 14 April, organised by Dafydd 07748 675 798. ‘The Pig Trail – Pumlumon Fawr from Nant y Moch’: Can you spot the pigs? Here in 1964 a reservoir was built. A community was drowned in order to create a water resource to serve Aberystwyth catchment area. We’ll follow the road from the dam and aim for the Bryn Beddau quarry. From here we turn up and head for Pumlumon Fach. The path is then steep but worth the effort. This is definitely an up and down route. The meeting point is outside Y Talbot at 9.30am. The walk is to last approximately four to five hours and is graded a moderate walk which covers 6.5 miles with an ascent of 1732 ft/ 530m. Should you wish to become a member of Clwb Cerdded Tregaron Walking Club then give Dafydd the secretary a ring on 01974 298 150.

WI

IN February they were joined by members from Llandewi Brefi and Swyddffynnon WIs for a Drumming Workshop led by Heather Summers.

Heather brought along numerous tom tom drums as well as various acoustic instruments. She gave simple tutorials in how to keep a rhythm and then split us up into groups around a circle, asking each group to copy her hand clapping and then we put them all together and surprisingly made a very pleasant sound. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening and the refreshment team led by American member, Gayle, had prepared a wonderful spread.

The March meeting was, as usual, a cawl evening, when they were joined by the carnival queen and king, Megan Dark and Osian Fish Jenkins and their mothers.

Erwyd Howells entertained after the meal with stories of his life as a shepherd in Ceredigion.

Since the meeting was held during Fair Trade fortnight they raffled a hamper of Fair Trade goods that was won by Gayle Jeffery. The evening ended with the singing of the national anthem accompanied on the piano by Jane Hughes who had also decorated the stage with a wonderful display of flowers. The next meeting, on Wednesday, 11 April, will be held in the Memorial Hall starting at 7.30pm. Mike Todd will be talking about computers. Contact Monica Rose on 298165 for more details.
