THE latest community news from Waunfawr
Women’s Institute
THE latest meeting of Waunfawr WI took place on Monday, 3 December, in the community hall.
There was an excellent turnout of members for the meeting.
All were welcomed by the new president, Caroline Hotchkiss, who gave a brief snapshot of her life to date, her career and the reasons for her move to the Principality.
It was then her part to welcome the speaker for the evening, Enid Walsh from St Anne’s Church, Penparcau.
Enid has for a number of years been instrumental in helping to run the Jubilee Food Bank in Penparcau.
She gave an insight into how the enterprise, begun by Rev Andy Herrick and members of the church in 2011, is run.
The food bank has grown since those early days and now distributes over 500 food parcels per year; it has been successful in securing funding to build a storehouse and its cafe in St Anne’s, operating now for over a year, is a most valuable meeting place offering friendship and support.
The meeting will conclude with seasonal nibbles and prosecco. The January meeting of the Institute will be on Monday, 7 January at 7pm in the hall when the pnstitute will welcome as speaker, PSCO Michaela Quinn.
