THE “unacceptable” state of the Co-op car park in Lampeter is making the whole area look “terrible”, according to one angry town councillor.
Cllr Dinah Mulholland – a driving force behind the town’s recently launched plastic-free initiative – is now demanding talks with the supermarket giants to see how their litter-strewn car park can be improved.
She made her forthright observations after organising a litter-pick around the town which yielded 11 bags of rubbish in just three hours.
“We need to have a chat with Co-op about the condition of their car park,” Cllr Mulholland told colleagues.
“It turns out that the company that’s been cleaning it has been laying people off.
“There’s now only one person who turns up once a month who’s responsible for it which is clearly why it’s in such a terrible state.
“The condition of this car park makes the whole area look terrible so we would like to approach Co-op as it makes the town look really, really bad.
“I am prepared to do so as an individual, if necessary.”
A Co-op spokesman said: “As a community retailer, our aim is for our stores to contribute to local life and support the local community.
“Unfortunately, a minority of people in our community do choose not to use the bins provided, so we carry out daily litter-picks of the accessible areas of our car park."
