Madam,
As the secretary of the Save Bodlondeb Steering Committee I should not be surprised to learn that our county council leader Ellen ap Gwynn is hanging on to the words of ‘Moving Home’ a report on the process of closing residential homes which writes ‘the process of moving is not helped if the time frame for closure is particularly long or drawn out’. This is now the county council’s excuse for not extending the steering committee’s request for a short extension to the consultation period of a few weeks. Sorry but ‘bunkum’.
The present residents of Bodlondeb Residential Home have been through the trauma of the realisation that domicilliary care was no longer applicable for them despite their families’ and often carers’ best effort to care for them at home. These same residents have accepted and have come to cherish living in this wonderfully run caring home which is situated in the ideal area for the majority of north Ceredigion families and friends to visit their loved ones.
Because of lack of upkeep and diversity for financial input into Bodlondeb certain elected councillors are advocating the easy option of closure - once again subjecting these vulnerable infirm residents to a second trauma of being transferred elsewhere, and who knows to where!
Please all do ensure that you are aware of which councillors vote for closure of Bodlondeb and remember this when they next ask for your vote as any closure could eventually affect you or any member of your family in the future in need of residential care. We are aware of those county councillors who have publicly announced that these Bodlondeb residents are not ‘cost-effective’.
Yours etc,
Pat Bates, Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
