A CARDIGAN man who drove while more than twice the legal limit has been banned from the road by magistrates.

Thomas Phillips, of 173 Maesglas, appeared before Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 12 January.

The court heard that 29-year-old was stopped by police while driving a BMW on High Street in Cardigan on 18 December last year.

Roadside and police station breath test showed that Phillips - who pleaded guilty to the charge at the hearing - had 88 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35mcg.

Magistrates disqualified Phillips from driving for 20 months.

He was also fined £120.

Phillips must also pay costs to the Crown Prosecution Service of £85 as well as a surcharge to fund victim services of £34.
