A Llanbrynmair man drunkenly kicked an Aberystwyth police officer and told him he would get him sacked, a court heard.

Dafydd Tristan Evans, 36, was caught on police body-cam footage hurling abuse at the officer, claiming he had assaulted him and threatening his job before he kicked out three times as he was being put in a police vehicle after being arrested in the early hours of Sunday, 18 November.

Evans, of 15 Glanclegyr, pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency service worker and of being drunk and disorderly during the incident which was sparked when the officer tried to speak to Evans after he had been thrown out of Inn on the Pier following an incident where Evans was aggressive to door staff.

As the PC tried to speak to Evans though, Evans became abusive, first off demanding to see a warrant when the officer tried to speak to him before trying to suggest he had been assaulted when the officer put his arm on Evans to try and calm him down.

Body-cam footage showed to Aberystwyth magistrates showed Evans barging into the officer before claiming that he was being assaulted when the officer held Evans off.

Evans then started shouting that his “mate is a sergeant” and he would ensure the officer lost his job, before he was arrested.

As officers tried to put Evans in a police van, Ms Tench said Evans kicked out three times, hitting the officer in the shin.

Defence solicitor Kevin Williams said the “unfortunate incident” had been sparked because Evans was “in a dark place” at the time and had drunk too much.

He said that while Evans admitted that he had kicked the PC, he said there had no intent to do so, but that Evans had kicked out as his leg was being hit by the van door and that the police officer’s leg was “collateral damage”.

Mr Williams added: “He’s seen the footage and he’s shown remorse.

“He’s a bit ashamed of what happened during that evening.”

Evans was fined £500 and will pay compensation to the PC he assaulted of £75. He will also pay costs totalling £125.
