A Machynlleth town councillor has today been found not guilty of stealing a packet of Panadol from a town supermarket.

A jury at Caernarfon Crown Court found Myfanwy Noella Elliot, 67, of Bryn-y-Gôg, who is a Machynlleth town councillor, not guilty of stealing a packet of paracetamol from the Co-op store in the town last October.

The two-day trial heard from a shop assistant who said Elliot had a packet of Panadol in her bag, which the store sells for £1.80.

Elliot said the packet was one she owned and had not been picked up in the store that day.

A jury found her not guilty by a majority verdict.
