A LLANRHYSTUD man arrested after cannabis was found in his car has been fined.

Alexander Bernardo Eberhard, of Benglog, Llanddeiniol, pleaded guilty to possession of 3.5 grammes of cannabis found by police after they stopped his car because it had a defective headlight.

Helen Tench, prosecuting, said police stopped 25-year-old Eberhard’s car at Croeslan at around midnight on 27 March after noticing the defective headlight.

When officers spoke to Eberhard they smelt cannabis and a search of his car found three bags near the driver’s seat, each containing a small amount of cannabis totalling 3.5 grammes with a street value of around £35.

Eberhard accepted it was cannabis and said he accepted ownership of the bags as they were in his car.

However, in an interview he said the cannabis wasn’t his, but that he wasn’t prepared to say who it belonged to, and that he accepted ownership as it was in his car.

He was fined £110 by Aberystwyth magistrates and was ordered to pay costs totalling £105.
