AN ABERYSTWYTH couple who run the town’s football club bar have been left “feeling sick” after thieves smashed their way into the club in the days after Christmas, stealing “everything they could get their hands on” before making off with their car.
Phil and Ruth Thomas, who lease and run the food and drink operation at the football club, have been left “distraught” by the incident which saw hundreds of pounds worth of stock taken, as well as Mrs Thomas’ car - which the thieves used as a getaway vehicle.
The car was later found after it was “wrapped around a tree” near Wrexham, with broken alcohol bottles strewn across the back seat.
“The police have been great, fair play, but this is very upsetting for us,” Mrs Thomas said.
“We bought new stock to open for the New Year’s Eve party but I have been sick about this for days.
“I didn’t know how hard it would affect me.
“We are carrying on and we won’t be beaten by it, but I can’t wait for the police to catch them.”
Dyfed-Powys Police said a 29-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and aggravated vehicle-taking, while a 47-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Both have been released while investigations continue, and no charges have yet been brought.
