A Machynlleth town councillor has today appeared before a crown court jury accused of stealing a packet of Panadol from the town’s Co-op store worth £1.80.

Myfanwy Noella Elliot, 67, of Bryn-y-Gôg, is accused of stealing a box of Panadol Advanced from Machynlleth’s Co-op store in October last year.

She is facing a two-day trial in front of a jury in Caernarfon Crown Court.

Elliot denies theft and said the packet was her own and used to carry aspirin for a heart condition and had been in her bag for some time.

A jury heard evidence on Wednesday from Elliot and a store assistant from the Co-operative store.

The trial will continue tomorrow.
