A MEIRIONNYDD mayor has ordained into the Priesthood alongside three other women.

Five women were ordained as deacons – the first step to becoming a priest in the Church in Wales -in a special service at St Asaph Cathedral on 24 June.

They were joined by four further women who will be made priests in the same service by the Bishop of St Asaph, the Rt Rev Gregory Cameron, including Dorothi Evans, who is based in Corwen in the Valle Crucis Mission Area and also acts as mayor for Bala.

Dorothi is now assistant curate in the Corwen Group of churches.

She said: “Being ordained into the priesthood will, I believe, enable me to serve and be an effective member of the ministry team in the newly formed Valle Crucis Mission Area.”

Cllr Evans formerly worked in social services, assistingpeople with learning diffculties but felt a “tug in her heart” to lead in the church after she reached retirement age.

She was ordained as a deacon last year after taking a course in theology and will become a priest at the ceremony this weekend.

“It just goes to show, you’re never too old to serve God,” she added.
