SCHOOLS in the Cardigan area will reopen on Monday, the council has confirmed, after a drop in Covid cases there.

Ceredigion County Council said on Friday: "Over recent days, the number of positive coronavirus cases in Cardigan and the surrounding area has decreased.

"The council took decisive action to close the schools in the area and to suspend other services when it became apparent that there was a significant increase in cases in the area. The excellent support, compliance and cooperation from the people of Cardigan over the last fortnight has successfully reduced the spread of the virus in the community to a manageable level."

They said the data shows that there has been a "significant reduction" in the level of the virus over the last week to a point where "we are confident that we can reopen" Cardigan Secondary School, Cardigan Primary School, Penparc Primary School, Aberporth Primary School, Llechryd Primary School, Cenarth Primary School and Ysgol Gynradd T Llew Jones for pupils and staff on Monday, 7 December.

The Flying Start Nurseries in Cardigan and Aberporth will also reopen from 7 December 2020.

In addition, Cardigan Library will reopen as a ‘click and collect’ service and the mobile library service will resume in the area from Tuesday, 8 December.

The Cardigan Safe Zone will also come to an end at 4.30pm on Saturday, 5 December 2020 and roads will remain open daily. Car parking charges will also be reintroduced in council car parks from 7 December.

The spokesperson added: "However, now is not the time to become complacent. We ask that you all continue to follow the guidance. More widely across Ceredigion, the numbers of positive cases continue to increase."
