A LLANBEDROG play group is calling on the public to help them raise much-needed funds to help keep their nursery open.

Cylch Meithrin Llanbedrog, which is ran by Susan Rayner, is open three days a week at Llanbedrog Village Hall and sees around 17 children a week attend between the ages of two and four.

The Cylch is run as a charity and are reliant on government grants and fund-raising to remain open.

Miss Rayner, who has worked at the Cylch for 12 years, says running the group has become increasingly difficult over the last few years due to funding cuts.

She said: “Over the last few years we have been told that funding will be cut, we use to receive around £8,000 a year from the local authority, it then went down to £7,000 and now it has dropped to £5,000.

“We use to get 100 per cent reimbursement from the council on our rent for the village hall, then it went down to 80 per cent, but now it has been cut completely which has left us with financial difficulties.

“Our finances are very tight, the three members of staff we have often have to wait an extra month to get paid which makes things difficult for them.

“There are many items needed to run a nursery so our grant funds are spent very quickly.

“We were sad to hear that Cylch Meithrin Abererch has closed and we just hope we don’t end up going that way as it’s so important to keep the Cylch within this community.”

To help boost funds a fashion show fundraiser will be held in Llanbedrog Village Hall on Friday, 4 December at 7pm but 80 tickets need to be sold for the event to go ahead.

Miss Rayner said she wants to appeal to the wider area, as well as Llanbedrog, to come to the event to support the Cylch.

“Tickets are £5 each and all the proceeds from them go towards the Cylch, if we sell 80 tickets for the event that is £400 which will really help towards our finances to keep the playgroup running for the children of Llanbedrog,”she said.
