PENGLAIS School’s Parent Teacher Association has distributed almost £3,000 to a range of initiatives in the school after a series of fundraising events.

The PTA donated £2,961 which will go to schemes in the school including new display boards for the sixth form to showcase the achievements of pupils, funding an educational day trip to Warhammer World and specialist equipment for chemistry and creative and PE departments.

The money was raised through a range of events including own clothes days, curry and quiz nights and a Christmas Fair.

A donation of £2,000 was made to allow the design and technology department to buy a new laser cutter and 3D printer, with over £450 going to the chemistry department for analogue melting point equipment.

There is also funding of £350 to allow pupils to spend an educational day at Warhammer World and just over £150 for new display boards for the sixth form centre.

Jonathan Evans, the head of creative and PE faculty, who teaches design and technology, said: “This equipment is used in all key stages and provides pupils with design and engineering skills needed in the modern world of technology and manufacturing.”

The PTA has said it is always keen for new volunteers and is also hoping to find a new committee member to begin in September.

Anyone who would like to get involved can contact the school on [email protected], or go to the PTA’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/PenglaisPTA.
