A VILLAGE playgroup set up in Aberporth over 50 years ago has received a glowing report from Estyn, the education watchdog.

Inspector Eifion R Morgan described practices at Aberporth as good to excellent, saying it had excellent prospects for even greater improvement.

Playgroup spokesperson Rhiannon Fagan said: “It doesn’t get better than this: a great honour for our playgroup.”

Set up in 1961, the bilingual playgroup, which currently has 16 children, moved to its current location at Hen Gapel vestry in 2008.

The playgroup is registered by the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales to take up to 21 children per session. Children who currently attend are funded for early years education and there are six full-time staff.

The Inspector said most children make good progress and learning experiences were of good quality and staff provided “stimulating” learning experiences for the children.
