A LAMPETER clergyman and his daughter will be attempting to walk the entire 61-mile stretch of the Ceredigion Coast Path in less than 20 hours next Saturday.
Canon Andy Herrick, 57, and his 33-year-old daughter, Rachel, a psychologist based at Bronglais Hospital who lives at Llanilar, will be raising funds for British Lung Foundation Cymru.
“A professional company was organising the whole walk, but we only heard last week that they’ve cancelled the event,” said Canon Herrick.
“However, my daughter and I have decided to go ahead with it anyway.
“Our reason for doing it is that my wife lives with Rheumatoid Arthritis Pulmonary Fibrosis which severely restricts what she can do and she is oxygen-dependent.
“Although she is doing miraculously well the prognosis is very poor. My father was oxygen-dependent for the last four years of his life.
“Rachel herself is asthmatic. As a small child it was serious enough to be life-threatening. So lung problems have been a big health issue in our family and we want to support the British Lung Foundation in the work they do.”
