Madam,

On D-Day our brave soldiers fought for our country, 75 years ago. Many lost their lives. It is very fitting that this is remembered. Many of these men were very young. It must have been terrifying, landing in a foreign country, fighting for your life.

My father was one of these men and it has been said by my family that when he came back he was a changed man. The men of his company who came back were lousy, having not washed for weeks and they were totally exhausted.

We owe our present-day life to these youngsters who became men on returning. And this is a lesson to us all, that they gave unselfishly their youth and some gave their lives for us.

Yours etc, Jean Miles, Harlech.
