A GUIDE dog owner from Henllan braved the waves at Llangrannog on New Year’s Eve to raise money for the charity she says changed her life.

Louise Jenkins led a group of friends and colleagues into the sea for a sponsored dip, raising £392 for Guide Dogs Cymru.

Among those joining her were daughter Alison Jenkins, colleagues from Newcastle Emlyn Running Club and workmates from Camfan, the mental health drop-in centre at Lampeter which Louise manages.

The event capped an exciting 2017 for Louise, who was voted Inspirational Guide Dog Owner of the Year by viewers of ITV’s This Morning.

She and her two-year-old Labrador retriever, Trinity, were also chosen to star in the new “Sponsor a Puppy” adverts for Guide Dogs UK, which air on prime time TV.

Filming for the advert took place in the sea at Llangrannog, which gave Louise the idea for a festive swim.

“It was so successful that Ceredigion Guide Dogs group has decided to make it an annual event,” she said.

“It was chilly, and there was hail as we made our way there, but the sun shone as we ran into the sea.”
