BRONGLAIS Hospital patients have hit out at council chiefs for deciding to axe a park and ride bus service they use to get to and from hospital.

People park their vehicles in the car park on Boulevard St Brieuc and catch the bus to Bronglais because of difficulties with parking near the hospital.

But the Cambrian News revealed last week that council chiefs had decided to scrap the service in August when the contract with Mid Wales Travel expires.

Sheila Jones, of Bow Street, said: “I think it’s an absolute lifeline for people trying to get to hospital.”

On the Cambrian News Facebook page, Iris Tower Evans said: "It will be a great loss of service for many people in Aber and the surrounding areas.”

Former Aberystwyth mayor Carol Kolczak, who was one of the local councillors who pushed for the park and ride service, said council officials making the decision to scrap the service should reconsider.

She said: “Regular users of this service, like me and others, use it for various hospital clinics and as a service into town for general shopping.”
