On 27 August, Cllr Craig ab Iago, Gwynedd housing officer, said he welcomed continued debate about the housing crisis. The following week I again raised the matter of the six houses to be built by Adra on the old surgery site in Blaenau Ffestiniog, all of which are to be sold, and not one for rent.

Adra is an evocative name, and if a home should represent anything, it should be security of tenure, and financially obtainable. It remains to be seen what will be the market price of those houses, but I doubt they will be within the reach of first time buyers, even the token one that is ‘affordable’.

I therefore put my question to you again, Cllr Craig ab Iago, why is there not one house for rent, of secure tenure and sustainable social rent, that young couples could aspire to? The ‘children’ for whose future you rightly express concern.
