A GROUP of friends in Fairbourne are to take part in this year’s Race for Life, and will carry out the run around the village.

Katie Pritchard, Louise Minton, and Susan Evans will run 5km around Fairbourne to raise money for Cancer Research UK on 24 April.

Katie explained that she is taking part in the event in memory of her Taid who passed away shortly after the birth of his great granddaughter.

She said: “I’m doing the race for life around Fairbourne in memory of my Taid, Barry Pritchard, who passed away five years ago on 9 February 2016 after fighting a long battle with lung cancer.

“My Taid fought so hard with his lung cancer which eventually resulted in him losing one of his lungs, this by the way never stopped him.

“I had a phone call off my dad and found out that the cancer had spread from his lungs to his brain.

“We found this out when I was about six months pregnant. We were not sure if Taid would make it to meet my daughter Lily but he did.

“He passed away four months after she was born.

“I was so sad but my amazing Taid continued to fight for as long as he could long enough to meet his great granddaughter.”

Katie, who is a care worker in Fairbourne, continued: “He is my hero and everyday I think about what an amazing person he was. So I am running this in memory of him.

“Please if you can donate anything please do so because there could be someone out there that could benefit from your help.”

Katie added that she is thankful for the support she has received from her friends and family.

She said: “I’ve had huge support from all my co-workers and from the community.”
