Madam,

It was nice to read the positive letter that not only referred to the importance of the rail link to Carmarthen but also stressed that people are screaming out for better transport which would come with the reintroduction of the line.

I would agree with the reference to the negativity by some people, whose opinion is based upon either the so-called £750m cost or comparisons with the dirty trains and carriages of old parent company British Rail and the lack of service provided by it, against a modern rail infrastructure which would link South Wales with Mid Wales.

Regarding the projected £750 million, the direct construction cost would be £288 million.

Let us now be positive in wanting a new era of having the Aberystwyth to Carmarthen line back. Remember it was the negativity at the time that made Dr Beeching close the line without considering the future demand.
