ABERYSTWYTH RNLI lifeboat volunteers had a busy weekend between a fashion show, searching for missing people and a children’s Christmas party.
The busy weekend started on Friday, 11 December, with a charity fashion show hosted by the White Stuff shop on Great Darkgate Street, Aberystwyth with many of the crew modelling both RNLI equipment and White Stuff clothing (pictured above).
The total raised from tickets and the raffle will be matched by White Stuff and presented to the Aberystwyth crew later in the year.
Sunday morning was an early start for the crew with an early morning towing exercise, followed in the afternoon with a Christmas party and visit from Santa Claus for all the crew’s children and families to say thank you for the commitment during the year.
A few hours after the party, the crew were paged and asked to launch to a missing person, but as the crew were launching the lifeboat, they were informed that the person was safe and with the police.
Just half an hour after returning home, the pagers sounded again and the volunteer crew were asked to go and search with Aberystwyth Coastguard for a person who had been seen going into the sea off north beach.
The RNLI lifeboat was quickly on scene and launched a number of illuminating parachute flares to help with the search.
After an hour of searching it was established that the person had not gone into the sea and that the original call was a false alarm with good intent so all were stood down.
