CUP TIES have been played in the Machynlleth and District Pool League competitions.In the last 16 of the league cup, there were comfortable wins for Red Lion B (10-4), Tredegar Arms (11-3), Dwynant (12-2) and White Horse A over Bowing Club, Rugby Club B, White Lion Ladies and Wynnstay Llanbrynmair respectively. And, in the game of the round, leaders Red Lion A saw off their main division one rivals, Skinners A, by eight frames to three. While having a more difficult passage into the quarter-finals, Foresters beat Rugby Club C 9-5, Y Llew Coch slipped past Slaters 8-6 and, in the round’s closest tie, Rugby Club A had a final-frame (8-7) victory over White Lion A.Meanwhile, the Cory Rowlands Division Two Cup produced two excell ent semi-finals as Foresters went through 8-6 against Wynn-stay Llanbrynmair and Rugby Club C progressed in their match with White Lion Ladies, 8-7.
Dominoes
RED LION A, reaching their half-century of points, and Slaters moved clear of the field after round seven in the Dyfi Valley Dominoes League.Table: Red Lion A (50 points), Slaters (48), Dovey Inn (45), Red Lion B (45), Foresters B (45), Foresters A (41), Penrhos (39), White Horse (36), Wynnstay (31), Bowling Club (25).
MOMA exhibitions
FOLLOWING the exhibitions’ recent openings, a fine selection of works of art are available for viewing at the Tabernacle Museum of Modern Art Machynlleth.These include, in the Ruralist Room, Eluned/Glyn, featuring ceramics by Eluned Glyn and paintings by Glyn Tomos, while in the foyer is the exhibition Pivotal Moments & Memories 1975-2015 with paintings by Dan Roberson.In the Pulpit Room is the exhibition Country in Colour by Simon Fenoul-het and in the Owen Owen Gallery is the exhibition The Stream and Steam, paintings by Peter McNally. Bob Guy’s exhibition of wood engravings Embrace the Hills can be seen on the Bridge.Meanwhile, in the Tannery Gallery, is the exhibition Our Glorious Coast-line with works from the Tabernacle Collection.Howard Bowcott’s sculptures com-pletes this series of exhibitions in the Sculpture Space.The files from Dyfi Valley 2000 are available for inspection in the Green Room when it is not being used for meetings or piano rehearsals. The Taliesin Mosaics are also on show here.The Mela (Festival) Mosaic, created by Martin Cheek to a design by Balraj Khanna, is in the entrance lobby to the auditorium.Admission to the galleries, which are open Monday to Saturday from 10am until 4pm, is free. Donations are welcome.
Rotary Club
THE CLUB has had a great time taking Father Christmas to all the important places in town and the surrounding villages, and even man-aged to stay dry while doing so.The MCCP children’s nursery, day care centre, Cemmaes Road village hall and Ty Melfed all enjoyed their visit and the club thanked everyone for their most generous donations. President Roger Seagrave would like to thank all his fellow members and the many more who gave help and support to make this a special Christmas.
