A LLANAELHAEARN man is set to embark on his biggest challenge yet – in this year’s Afghanistan Marathon.

Gordon Hughes is no stranger to marathons having completed an ultra marathon, a three-day run covering 135 miles, and to date has raised over £6,000 for charity and completed over 50 races.

His goals for this year include three ultra marathons; the first being The Ring of Fire on Anglesey followed by the Pen Llyn Ultra, but his biggest challenge and dream would be to run the Afghanistan Marathon later on in the year.

However, the 35-year-old needs the support of the public to fulfil this mission and is now appealing for help to raise £2,350 to take part in the marathon.

He said: “I manage to run extreme distances every day, because I only work part-time.

“On the one hand part-time employment is better than being unemployed, however, the low wages from my job makes being able to save for anything virtually impossible without making considerable sacrifices.

“This is by far the biggest challenge I have ever undertaken and should I get the funding I will be eternally grateful to everyone who has helped me."
