AN EVENT will be held on Saturday to raise awareness of the Plastic Free Aberystwyth campaign.
The Plastic Free Movie Night will be held at the Aberystwyth bandstand on the promenade as a campaign against single-use plastics in the town continues.
The event, from 6.30pm to 9pm, will feature two movies about marine plastics; North of the Sun and the as-yet unreleased Skye’s the Limit.
The evening will also have cakes and mulled wine from Medina; handmade and reusable ‘Aberystwyth’ bags, crocheted hats and more from Stormrider Sports; plastic-free cosmetics by Eva from the Market Hall; and a display of plastic-free items and packaging.
Laura Truelove, the local Surfers Against Sewage representative and volunteer who is leading the Plastic Free Aberystwyth Campaign, said: “This event serves to highlight the issue of marine plastics and how reducing our single-use plastic consumption at the source is so important.
“It’s great that we have so many businesses in Aberystwyth on board, some of which are coming along on the night to sell plastic-free items, food and drink.
“I hope we can get the message out to people that there are so many things we can do on an individual level to help; no action is too small or insignificant.”
All donations will go to Surfers Against Sewage and Aber Food Surplus.
