THE community is in shock over the death of a much-loved 11-year-old schoolboy following a head-on crash on the A485 near Tregaron.

Tristan Silver, from the Tregaron area, died following the collision between the blue Subaru Legacy Outback in which he was travelling and a black Mitsubishi Shogun 4x4, towing a livestock trailer.

Dyfed-Powys Police said the crash happened between Llangybi and Tregaron at Olmarch at around 8.50am on Friday morning.

The blue Subaru was travelling towards Lampeter while the black Mitsubishi was travelling towards Tregaron.

The driver and passenger in the Mitsubishi sustained minor injuries. No animals were injured.

Tristan’s 28-year-old mother and her other child were also taken to hospital but their injuries are not said to be life-threatening.

A police spokesman said: “Sadly we can confirm that 11-year-old Tristan Silver, of the Tregaron area, died as a result of the collision.

“Our thoughts are with his family, who are being supported by specialist officers.”

Following the crash Tristan was flown to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff .

On Friday a spokesman for Wales Air Ambulance confirmed two helicopters and a rapid response vehicle had been sent to the scene.
