A “MONSTROUS” fence has been moved followed a campaign by local residents.

Last December the Cambrian News reported that residents of Cumbernauld Place, Barmouth felt as if they “were living in a prison compound” after Network Rail erected a nine-foot, green fence outside their properties.

Now, following a series of complaints and meetings, Network Rail has taken action to rectify the situation.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “Safety is a key priority and we recently installed new fencing in Barmouth to help stop trespassing on the railway.

“We have listened to the local community and, to address their concerns, we will be moving the fencing so that it is not directly outside people’s homes.

“This helps us strike the right balance between ensuring the railway is safe and minimising the impact of our work on the community.”
