A WOMAN from Penrhyndeudraeth who paid for another customer’s shopping at a supermarket has said she was pleased to be able to help out.

Ceri Joyce is a beauty and holistic therapist at the Beauty Box in Porthmadog.

She was on furlough from 19 December until 12 April.

When shopping at an Aldi on Thursday, 1 April, Ceri noticed a woman was having difficulty paying with her card.

The customer behind the woman was getting frustrated and, having been in the same position herself, Ceri stepped forward to help out.

Ceri said: “I’m lucky to have a job that actually leaves people ‘feeling better’, hopefully! It’s a nice job! I like to make people feel better! But that night in Aldi, being able to help that lady out and stop that stressful situation, felt really, really amazing, it gave me a warm glow inside and made me smile.

“It didn’t just make the lady feel better, it really made me feel good! I’ve always helped people out whenever the situation arose, it’s what you do, isn’t it?

“After posting the story on Facebook, a number of my friends also said they had done the same good deed! Beth Roberts, Carys Williams and Judith Johnstone.”

The woman who Ceri helped has since sent her a thank you card.

Ceri continued: “I remembered when I was in that situation so I went forward and offered to pay the bill, it was only £11. I’d never seen the lady before, she was foreign, I didn’t know whether I’d get it back but I had to do it, and it felt really good!

“I didn’t have much in my account but I had enough to cover her bill and mine until my next wage came in. I’d have paid it even if it was three times as much because the lady was in such a state. On Friday, 9 April I received a lovely thank you card and beautiful message.”

She added: “There are still honest people out there, and I would do the same thing again if the situation arises, I’d also hope that someone would do it for me too. In the process of this I’ve made a new friend who I will keep in touch with and meet for a cuppa next time I’m over that way!”
