CONCERNS have been raised over pedestrian safety on newly-proposed roundabouts near Dolgellau.

The two junctions between the A470/A493 (Fairbourne) and A470/A494 (Bala) have been criticised following the inquest into the deaths of Kevin John Haddock and John Roach who both died as a result of crashes on the Bala intersection.

Following a serious of serious incidents involving both junctions, which were reworked early last year, traffic lights have been installed to prevent further accidents.

Subsequently, plans have been proposed and accepted to build roundabouts at the two junctions in order to make the roads safer and reduce the likelihood of further fatal collisions.

The new road layout is expected to be completed in spring 2017.

However, local councils in the region have voiced their concerns that pedestrians using the road are also at risk and should be considered when the new roundabouts are constructed.
