OLD Aberystwyth street signs replaced by new ‘heritage street signs’ will be sold off to help raise money for a major redevelopment of Ceredigion Museum.
The council in 2014 replaced around 250 street name signs in Aberystwyth town centre, similar to those used at the start of the 20th century with funding from the Aberystwyth Regeneration Area funding.
Those old signs will now be sold off with the council saying there had been interest from members of the public keen on buying them.
Friends of Ceredigion Museum will now arrange an auction of the old signs to help fund the works needed to renovate and redevelop the museum in Terrace Road.
But councillors have said they will ask museum representatives to consider keeping a few signs as an example of how signs used to appear, although have backed selling off the signs.
