Madam,

It saddened me to read in your paper that someone living in the countryside could be so worried about the number of pheasants that she comes across.

These are wild birds that are free to roam wherever they choose and it is always a pleasure to see these beautiful birds.

It is thanks to the farmers and conservationists as custodians of the countryside that these birds are thriving.

Your reader does not need to worry as the recent foolish reintroduction of pine martens into the wild will soon kill off many birds and other wildlife.
