Police have broken up a party of more than 30 youths in the grounds of a cricket club in Meirionnydd.

The party took place in the grounds of Dolgellau Cricket club last night.

North Wales Police, who attended the scene, said it follows a large gathering at Tywyn Beach last week.

Commenting on that incident, they said: “Local officers came across a group of 15+ youths (Under 18) drinking on the beach front at approximately 9pm.

“Social distancing was not being maintained, and officers observed many hugging as they arrived. Alcohol was confiscated and disposed of. Officers also cleaned up the mess which was left behind and have a black backpack at the police station if it’s yours and you want to collect.

“The maximum number of people who can gather outdoors that do not all live together is 4.”

“We would also like to remind the public that it is an offence to purchase alcohol on behalf of someone under the age of 18 and also delivering alcohol to a person under 18 or allowing such delivery under sections 149 and 151 of the Licensing act 2003. Anyone caught can be issued with a £90 fixed penalty notice.”

Commenting on last night’s incident in Dolgellau, they said: “Dolgellau officers dealt with a party of 30+ youths under age drinking at the cricket club.

“Officers left to clean up the mess, and also have a backpack belonging to someone. If it’s yours, please collect tomorrow from Dolgellau Police Station with your parents.”
