A new committee has been formed to run next month’s Lampeter Food Festival after it emerged that Dyfed-Powys Police had launched an investigation into an alleged theft relating to the event, the Cambrian News can reveal.

Gwyl Fwyd Llanbed: Lampeter Food Fest - a group of volunteers put together to run this year’s event on 27 July - is said to have made ‘significant progress’ in the past week.

Lampeter Town Council has agreed to a grant of up to £5,000, subject to a business plan, and additional funding is being sought by the festival committee.

An appeal for donations will also be launched shortly.

“Following concerns about the finances of the Lampeter Food Festival and whether it would go ahead this year, the town council decided to back the formation of a new committee, completely independent of Lampeter Food Festival Ffair Fwyd Llambed Ltd, with support from the council, chamber of trade and the university to organise a food festival in Lampeter on 27 July,” says a statement.
