GWYNEDD politicians have smashed their initial target for a charity fundraiser to support children with cancer in Gwynedd and Anglesey.

Siân Gwenllian MS and Hywel Williams MP, who represent Arfon, launched a Christmas appeal to raise money for Gafael Llaw, a charity that supports children in those counties who have cancer.

The charity’s work focuses on providing financial support to Dewi Ward Ysbyty Gwynedd, Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool and the charity, Clic Sergant.

The charity has held a number of activities since its inception, many of which reached a national platform, including Tour de Cymru, a 650-mile cycle ride around children’s hospitals in Wales. The charity raised over £110,000 in its first two years.

Speaking about the fundraising campaign, Siân Gwenllian said: “We launched the fundraising campaign earlier this month, setting an initial target of £300.

“We’re glad to say that we’ve exceeded that target, raising a total of £940 so far.

“The charity is such a worthy cause, supporting local families in an unimaginably difficult situation. Therefore, with three days left, we’ve decided to extend the target to £1,000.”
