A LONG-serving Lampeter councillor has been confirmed as the chairman of Ceredigion County Council for 2018/19.
Cllr Hag Harris was elected as the chair at the authority’s annual meeting on Friday, 18 May, replacing outgoing chairman Lynford Thomas.
Cllr Harris will work alongside Cllr Peter Davies, who represents the Capel Dewi ward, who was elected as the council’s vice-chair.
Both Cllr Harris and Cllr Davies made declarations of acceptance of office with Cllr Harris being presented with the chain of office from Cllr Thomas, and Cllr Davies receiving the Insignia of Office.
The two experienced councillors, both of whom have served as Cabinet members under previous administrations, have said they are looking forward to working together for the benefit of the county.
During a speech on his year as council chair, Cllr Thomas said that in more than 100 official engagements he had been impressed by the people of Ceredigion that he had met.
The annual meeting also heard that two committee chairs were standing down after serving for two years.
Cllr Lyndon Lloyd stepped down as the chair of the council’s development control committee and will be replaced by Cllr Bryan Davies with Cllr Thomas serving as vice-chair.
The chair of the thriving communities scrutiny committee, Cllr Euros Davies, has also stood down after two years in the role.
He will be replaced by Cllr Gwyn James, with Cllr Marc Davies taking over as vice-chair.
