MACHYNLLETH Town Council is to investigate charging for their car parks.

Councillor Ann MacGarry proposed, during a meeting on 31 January, the council look at charging for their car park.

Cllr MacGarry said this could make “a fair bit of income”: “We could set a daily price and give parking permits monthly or annually to people who work in the Plas or local residents.”

Cllr Michael Williams said this was not pursued before because of machinery costs.

“It would be low key initially, you turn up at the front desk and get a ticket,” Cllr MacGarry said.

Cllr Jeremy Paige said: “I think we need to have a fully formed proposal with ideas of charges, how much it might raise, amount of spaces. The way forward is to go around with Julie Humphreys and look at what this could achieve.”
