Clwb Rotari Christmas float

FOR many years the local Rotary Club has had the pleasure and privilege of bringing to the residents of Pen Llyn the spirit of Christmas with seasonal greetings and messages of goodwill. This is achieved by visits to most parts of the local community by Santa, accompanied by his team of willing helpers, in his brightly coloured Christmas Float handing out small presents to children to the tune of carols and other festive music. The visit of Santa always seems to create such a happy and spontaneous atmosphere which is readily embraced by the residents. It is always very gratifying to see the faces of the young children glow with delight as they tell Santa just what they want him to bring them on Christmas morning. Some children are already prepared for his visit by having wish lists ready for him. Photographs of Santa with the children are becoming more popular with so many people having smart phones (such photos are only ever taken by the parents of the children or with the parent’s approval). The willing helpers, who accompany Santa and carry collection buckets, are members of local charity and community groups who benefit from the generosity of residents. The cash takings are paid into the Rotary Club Trust Fund account, which account is itself a Charity registered by The Charity Commission. A share of the funds raised is passed on to the groups who have helped with the collection and the balance is used to distribute to various other charities and good causes, in both the local area and internationally where we seek to eradicate poverty, hunger and health problems. We host a presentation night in February when we distribute the funds to the various charities and community groups. To enable residents to know just when Santa will call, please refer to the attached Rota Schedule which is correct at the time of printing but is subject to change due to possible operational difficulties or bad weather. If anyone misses Santa’s visit, he can always be seen at one of the static weekend sites. This year Santa will arrive on the train at Pwllheli Station at around 10.30am on Saturday, 28 November and then move on to his grotto in Pwllheli to see the children. The grotto will be open Saturday until 5pm and Sunday from 11.30am until 4pm.
