ORGANISERS of a charity raft race have caused a splash by donating £2,000 to a children’s hospice.
Members of the Merioneth Yacht Club and the Mawddach Paddlesport Festival presented Ty Gobaith, Hope House Children’s Hospice with the substantial cheque last Saturday evening.
The amount was the proceeds of the Hope House Challenge Raft Race at the Mawddach Paddlefest in July.
Now run by Merioneth Yacht Club, the Mawddach Paddlefest is held annually in Barmouth.
It is a charity paddlesport weekend and this year raised over £4,000 for good causes.
This year, 140 paddlers took part in the Hope House raft race on the Saturday followed up with 150 paddlers in Sunday’s ‘Guided Paddle’ to Penmaenpool.
Senior fund-raiser Eluned Yaxley, who accepted the cheque on behalf of Ty Gobaith, said: “A big thank you goes to everyone involved in running this event and their continued support of our work. We simply could not exist without them.”
Thanks also went to the many local outdoor activity centre’s for its help with equipment. The surplus amount will go to local good causes.
