I would like to thank the council workers for cleaning all the litter from our road verges, as reported recently in the Cambrian News.I also thank those individuals who voluntarily clean near their homes, churches, and beaches.
During our infrequent trips into Aberystwyth this winter I was upset at the amount of rubbish which spoiled the countryside. After the council cleaned our road it was pristine for a few days until someone threw a drinks cup and a sandwich wrapper near the bridge. My perception is that the amount of rubbish along the roads has become worse, especially this year. In previous years we might have blamed visitors to the area, however we have been in lockdown all winter while this rubbish accumulated.
Most people nowadays would at least pay lip service to caring for nature and the environment. These “litterbugs” apparently care nothing for our environment. As our council tax bills have arrived for the year, and we contemplate how much we’re paying for this clean up, I’m sure we could all think of other projects we would like funded, for example: flowers to enhance the seafront in Aberystwyth or reopening the leisure centre.
